Two paths, resolved with care
Practice areas

Advice matched to what is actually at stake.

Every family matter carries its own weight — a house, a child's routine, a pension built over twenty years. Each area below is handled with that specificity in mind, not as a template.

01

Divorce & separation

Guidance through the divorce process, from the application to the final order, including no-fault divorce procedure.

02

Children & arrangements

Advice on child arrangements orders, contact and living arrangements disputes, and parental responsibility applications.

03

Domestic abuse & protection

Non-molestation and occupation orders, and advice for those seeking or responding to protective injunctions.

04

Cohabitation & agreements

Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, and cohabitation agreements for unmarried couples.

05

Mediation-led resolution

Support preparing for and working through mediation, where a negotiated route is the better fit than court.

How a matter proceeds

The stages of working together.

Family cases rarely move in a straight line, but the shape below is the honest version of how a matter usually unfolds.

01Week 1

Initial consultation

A free, confidential call to understand your situation, your priorities, and what outcome you are actually looking for — before any advice on strategy.

02Week 1–2

Case assessment & options

A written summary of your legal position, the realistic range of outcomes, and the routes available — negotiation, mediation, or court — with the trade-offs of each set out plainly.

03Ongoing

Negotiation or mediation

Where a matter can be resolved without court, that is usually the faster and less costly route. I help you prepare your position, draft correspondence for you to send, and advise before mediation sessions.

04If required

Preparing for court

Where a matter needs to go to court, I help you get ready for it — drafting the documents, explaining what to expect at each stage, and making sure you understand your case well enough to present it yourself with confidence.

05Close

Resolution & after

Once an order or agreement is in place, I make sure you understand exactly what it means in practice — and remain available if circumstances change.

Fees

Clear terms before any work begins.

Family law costs are unpredictable enough already. You will always know the basis you are being charged on before any work begins, in writing.

£0First call

Initial consultation

A free 30-minute call to understand your situation and confirm whether I am the right fit — no obligation to continue afterwards.

FixedDefined work

Fixed-fee matters

For clearly scoped work — drafting an agreement, advising on a single application — a fixed fee is quoted up front, agreed before work starts.

HourlyOngoing matters

Hourly rate, itemised

For matters that develop over time — negotiation, court proceedings — billing is hourly against an agreed estimate, with itemised invoices so you always know where costs stand.

About

Gurusahiba Kaur Bhatia

Barrister (non-practising) · Family Law Consultant

I work closely with clients during some of life's most difficult moments, giving clear, honest advice on divorce, children arrangements, non-molestation and occupation orders, and domestic abuse matters, rather than advice softened to sound reassuring. This has meant developing a calm approach in emotionally charged cases, alongside close attention to detail in both written advice and document drafting.

I trained as a barrister through the Bar Practice Course and hold an LLM from the University of Law, Birmingham. I now work as a non-practising barrister and family law consultant — I guide, draft, and advise, but as a consultancy rather than a firm of solicitors or barristers in independent practice, I do not take on cases as your representative or appear in court on your behalf.
